UIT - Unione Industriale Torino

Istitution refurbishment
2017

The workspace is undoubtedly the kind of space that more than others has undergone social and economic transformations, a space which has changed so fast in the last few years that many are wondering if it still has any sense to design it.

Compared to the domestic one, related mostly to a slow mutation of rituals, customs and to variations in the way private space is considered, the workspace reflects more rapidly the changes of our society. The UIT building, built in the seventies, respond to a hierarchical organization of work that no longer represent the contemporary way of working, with a distribution corridor in the center, small offices on both sides and few bigger rooms for manager’s offices. The project dissolves the symbolic charge of the managerial system by obtaining within the existing structure more flexible and collective spaces and providing multiple operating modes for workers.

The pavilion, located in the garden, is considered as the ideal continuation of the historic villa. Its design is intended as a mediation between the modernist formal rigor of the UIT palace and the curved lines of the eclectic style of the villa. Thanks to its full openable windows and movable curtain that wraps the entire building the pavilion it’s capable of hosting different activities, from gala dinner to catwalks, workshops, projection and concerts.
