The project is a Political Display designed to promote a public discussion during MEXTRÓPOLI 2019 Festival on the Mexican Identity and its strenuous integration between Pre-Columbian, Colonial and Spanish American cultures. These complex issues are reinterpret through the history of Alameda Central, which, since its foundation in 1592, has been the symbol of this process. NOBODY BUILDS WALLS BETTER THAN ME is a wall, six meters high and twenty-four meters long, inspired by the Trump’s model reflecting on the topic of borders and national identities. The pavilion is symbolically place on the edge of the park, redefining its accesses and denying its main entry on north-south axis. The wall’s upper part holds a long frieze, evocative of urban billboards and Diego Rivera’s murales, with scenes from the history of Alameda Central and Mexican People. Scenes are divided into three categories: Yellow, Pre-Columbian Age / Red, Colonial Age / Blue, Post-Independence Time
The three overlapping layers of paper are subsequently torn up in order to open new possible interpretations of the history that deny a linear reading of it. The Political Display encourages a discussion on these themes. Facing the park, NOBODY BUILDS WALLS BETTER THAN ME will host these moments of dialogue through a series of conferences on Mexican History and Architecture, organized in collaboration with Arquine. When not used for the festival’s agenda, the Display will act as a collective seating from which admiring Alameda Central’s beauties.
