A new paved path connects via Lorenteggio with via Giambellino, reinforcing the North-South axis and laying the foundations for a more rational infrastructure of the area. The green portion, close to via Odazio, is extended creating a larger green area in front of the new building. Library’s two main facades are parallel to the North-South pedestrian axis: a properly public one that overlooks the green square and another more private overlooking a private garden. The same material used for the external pedestrian paths continues inside the large lobby while on the East front the windows, opening directly on the library’s garden, allows a direct access to it. The large glazed lobby welcomes services with a public impact and give access to laboratories, conference rooms and to a small food area. Towards the appurtenant garden are located spaces organized according to an informal layout such as the Family Area, the Children and Youths Area and the Music, Entertainment and New Media Section. Services traditionally provided by libraries are located on the upper floor of the building, still connected to the garden with a circular metal stair. On the outside the long bench, designed as the building’s pedestal, offers to all citizens the chance to live the large covered space in front of the lobby, even if just for a moment of rest overlooking the park.
The project pursues multiple objectives that have to do with the re-establishment of a fragmented fabric, both urban and social, and the need to provide the neighborhoods with quality spaces that allow this urban renovation.
